About EGGVP

The European Group for Generic Veterinary Products (EGGVP) is an independent organization representing the industry of generic veterinary medicines in Europe. Our member companies are focused on the development and marketing of generic medicines for food producing animals and pets.

EGGVP was founded on 15th April 2002 as a non-profit organization under Belgian law (Asbl). At that time, the presence of generic veterinary medicines in Europe was becoming more important, with companies expanding their presence and activity to many Member States. This situation brought to light the lack of a harmonised regulatory framework for licensing (generic) veterinary medicines in the EU. The increasing concern of a growing number of companies involved in the manufacturing and distribution of generic veterinary medicines, which saw the need to promote a harmonised EU system, was the main reason for the establishment of EGGVP.

EGGVP works closely with regulators and related stakeholders to overcome the regulatory difficulties experienced by its member companies and aims, through effective lobbying, to achieve a practical and coherent approach for the licensing of generic products in Europe. EGGVP is regularly requested to provide comments during the development of regulatory guidelines and other legal instruments. The group coordinates and facilitates the input from member companies and, on behalf of them, ensures that parties involved in the decision-making process are informed of the effect that any new piece of legislation may have on the generic industry. The current preparatory work on the next revision of the veterinary medicines legislation is a crucial focus point for EGGVP today, as it represents a unique opportunity to make sure the obstacles in the current legislation are overcome.
